Choosing the Proper Saltwater Aquarium Size
The founder and president of Barone Rental Properties in Toledo, Ohio, John J. Barone II has been developing properties in and around the city for roughly 40 years. When he isn’t working, John J. Barone II enjoys caring for the fish in his saltwater aquarium.
Although it is certainly more difficult than maintaining a freshwater aquarium, maintaining a saltwater aquarium isn’t quite the hassle that many people assume it is. Newcomers to the world of saltwater aquariums can greatly improve their chances of success by choosing the right aquarium tank.
It may seem counterintuitive at first but keeping a larger saltwater tank is far easier than keeping a smaller one. The reason is simple: inevitable fluctuations in water quality will be less pronounced in larger aquariums, thereby mitigating any potential negative effects on the saltwater ecosystem.
For this reason, experts recommend a tank of approximately 55 gallons for beginners. At this size, an aquarium should be relatively stable and able to accommodate several varieties of fish. While larger tanks may be moderately easier to maintain, the extra expenses associated with extremely large aquarium systems are typically undesirable to novices.
